Admission Policy

Preparatory for Early College is an innovative high school that will allow students to earn an Associate’s degree or at least 60 credit hours towards a baccalaureate degree during grades 9-12.  The Preparatory for Early College will serve students who would not otherwise consider attending college. This institution will be committed to serve and provide quality education to the students of the Rio Grande City and La Grulla communities.  No person shall be excluded from participation in, denied the benefits of, or be subject to discrimination under any program or activity conducted by RGCCISD Preparatory for Early College on the basis of race, color, national origin, religion, sex, age, or disability.  Any individual interested in attending must review and complete all enrollment procedures.

Application Process

Preparatory for Early College shall provide students with the combined principles of high school and college rigor while ensuring the academic, social, and emotional support are met. At no cost to the parents, students will benefit from enrollment in the Preparatory for Early College by saving time and money while accumulating up to 60 college hours and earning a high school diploma. Ninth grade students will be motivated to dedicate themselves to the intellectual challenges college students encounter on a daily basis.

In order to be considered for Preparatory for Early College, a completed application must be submitted by the set deadline.  Incomplete applications will not be processed.

Recruitment Plan

8th Grade students from Grulla Middle School, Ringgold Middle School, Veterans Middle School,  the Academy for Academic Enhancement, and Immaculate Conception School will be actively recruited to enroll in the Preparatory for Early College.  In partnership with South Texas College, RGCCISD will implement a district-wide initiative that will involve ECHS administration, middle school administration, and middle school counselors in order to ensure all students and parents receive the important information concerning Preparatory for Early College enrollment benefits and admission procedures.

Recruitment will begin in January of every school year. The following timeline of recruitment events will be followed:

January – Dissemination of Information to all 8th-grade students at the 3 middle schools to include students attending the Academy for Academic Enhancement;

January – Dissemination of Information to all 8th-grade parents at the Fort Ringgold Auditorium.

Information will be disseminated via the following:

  1. Uniform PowerPoint Presentations at the middle schools and at the parent meeting
  2. Informational Brochures and Flyers ( Spanish and English )
  3. Campus and District Websites Posting
  4. Community Displays
  5. Student and Parent Workshops
  6. Student Panel and Discussions
  7. ECHS Office

January – Application Process begins

March 1st – Application Deadline and Application Reviews

Application Review – Incomplete applications will not be considered. Applications submitted after the deadline will not be considered, 150 students will be selected (100 from Rio Grande City and 50 from La  Grulla)
